Factory turned hilltop concert hall opens

The Chongqing Philharmonic Factory, a music complex that consists of a medium size hall, rehearsal and educational spaces, a jazz bar, opens today in Chongqing, China.

The facility, located on the hilltop, is converted from an abandoned factory. It took ten months to finish the conversion which began in September 2016. The auditorium is characterised with armed green benches instead of comfortable seats, resembling the idea of a commune.

Chongqing Philharmonic Orchestra, a privately funded orchestra founded in 2016, will be the orchestra-in-residence of the hall.
