Lang Lang cancels this season’s concerts
Chinese pianist Lang Lang regrets to announce that he is forced to cancel performances through the end of June due to an inflammation in his left arm. This includes the Bergen International Festival concert on 1 June.
“We are saddened by these news, as we know a lot of people were looking forward to experiencing this amazing pianist. We wish Lang Lang a good recovery, and are happy that he wants to visit Bergen another year”, Festival Director Anders Beyer says.
On his doctor’s recommendations, Lang Lang will spend the next few months resting his arm and allowing it to heal in order to make a full recovery.
The Bergen concert scheduled for Grieghallen on 1 June was the 2017 Festival event that sold out first. The Festival is working with Lang Lang to find a concert date another year, and is also working to produce another event in Grieghallen on the night in question.
Everyone with tickets to the Lang Lang concert in Bergen will receive information on Tuesday 18 April on how to get their tickets reimbursed. This information will also become available at www.fib.no and the Festival’s Facebook-page.
Lang Lang is considered one of the greatest stars of classical music today, he is well-known for his open-hearted, emotive playing and performs in the biggest concert halls around the globe. His list of merits is long and varied: He performed at the 2014 World Cup concert in Rio, at the 56th and 57th Grammy Awards with Metallica and Pharell Williams, the Last Night of the Proms at London’s Royal Albert Hall, as well as on Sesame Street. He has been included in the “TIME 100”, the magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the World, and Steinway Pianos has named a piano model after him.
The 2017 Bergen International Festival will take place from 24 May until 7 June.
