Comedian arrested in New York, once conducted China Phil

Chinese comedian Zhou Libo was arrested in New York Thursday while driving a Mercedes-Benz on Bayville Road in Lattingtow. He was stopped by the police together with another Chinese man. They face weapon and drug charges, Nassau County police said. Libo is also charged with mobile phone use while driving.

During the traffic stop, police saw a black handgun holster on the rear seat. Upon further investigation a loaded Colt MKIV Mustang .380 pistol and two plastic bags containing crack cocaine were found, police said.

Zhou was released from jail today on a USD5,000 bail pending trial.

On January 30, 2010, Zhou Libo conducted China Philharmonic Orchestra in a gala stand-up talk show as invited by CPO’s artistic director Long Yu in Beijing at the Forbidden City Concert Hall. At least two musicians were fired afterwards because they were unwilling to follow Zhou’s baton movements.

During the show, Zhou asked the four French horn players to stand up and make laugh at them by resembling the quartet with an Audi logo. One player failed to stand up. He was dismissed afterwards.
